My First Apple Since 1996

November 14th, 2008

I have a PowerPC. Actually i have two - one is dead, spare parts machine. They are both Power Macintoshes 6100/60s. [edit] they were throwing them out, and so i asked if i could have them. They are dated 1994. I got them in 1997. [/edit]

Beasts!! I have all these peripherals that go with them, some in unopened boxes. They, well “it”, still works. Back in the day of a MASSIVE  1GB SCSI hard drive. 66 MHz IIRC and not much RAM.

I bought a new iPhone, 16GB. And will be buying either a  Mac mini (as a cheap, temporary thang) or spend shitloads and buy an 8 core Mac Pro kick arse computer for the home “experience” and a Mac Book Pro for my new venture coming up.

[edit] oh and i bought a wireless router to plug into my home network, just for my iPhone for now. Man all these things i had to switch off and reconfigure just to get it to work on my existing network! Luckily i’m not stupid and can figure this stuff out….next is my music over TCP/IP…. :-P [/edit]

that’s all for now, watch this space.

Sometimes It’s the Little Tings

September 24th, 2008

i go camping a lot. Middle of nowhere. Bring your water, food…sometimes even bring your firewood. I usually have a gas bottle for the stove for cooking if there’s an issue with firewood…which, can happen.

it doubles as a nice gas lantern. Thankfully due to the developing LED technology, the reliance upon gas for lighting is diminishing. I have some lights/lamps…work well. Apparently theres this thing the Mythbusters Team need to checkout…mosquitos dont like white LEDs.

Me…mosquito magnet man…any mosquito in a 300km radius…..bites me!!!

except if my good friend Warren and his wife Kath come along….
Warren…fek…if he’s there, i dont get bitten.

So i invite him and his wife along as much as i can!! hehe

oh and the subject? I have asked my Organic produce place over and over for garlic and ginger in a tube. Keeping food fresh in the outback is not easy even tho i have a 4WD fridge.

Preferably organic, but hey…so i found one..that will do for now….. Gourmet Garden.

If i find a certified organic product, i’ll post it. And yes Tings was intentional…The Ting Tings are white hot here at the moment ;-)

cheers

September 11

September 12th, 2008

From afar. I was awake. Watching on Cable TV. Coz i was up. Awake. Nornal. The TV was loud, as per normal…i was doing internet “shit” and things were “normal”.

i’m about to go to bed…a breaking broadcast comes through….for some reason, it was on CNN while i was doin what i was doin…..

i’ll never forget it…..and sorry for typing it here…i saw the second plane hit the World Trade Centre……

on TV…..

live….

what can i say. Nothing really. And i’m sorry for that.

i lost my job not long after that, sold my beautiful Monaro…..that i had had for 13 years…went onto unemployment benefits……

but, hey, i am in Australia, far far far away.., but still impacted…friends and families over there…

i pray for you. Be you Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, etc…i apologise if i missed your religion here, but i know that you know that life is sacrosanct.

take care

On the Road Again

August 30th, 2008

I went for a drive to one of my favourite hiking spots. It is bitterly cold and i decided not to camp overnight, but went hiking anyway.

It’s so good to get away sometimes, given the stresses of life. Hopefully i’ll have all that sorted out by the end of next week and i can move forward again.

We’re Back! But not all quite right.

August 29th, 2008

hey, sorry for not posting fo a while. And yes, 7:40am a sign of my new times!

I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately and was ok, until i was told that i had to work offsite coz my preferred place of work was a distraction.

Fuck off.

The project manager basically didn’t like that i had to attend team meetings and an ad hoc meetings. We are a f’ing support team after all.

No they wanted me to work in a foreign environment on a foreign computer. I DID point out that me using a Windows PC would significantly reduce my productivity - i use a Gnome Desktop, and not that it matters between Linux or Solaris, i use OpenSolaris. Given all my testing and dev work is on Solaris 10…..makes sense right?

Unless you’re using Red Hat, then that’s a “don’t get me started” type of argument. And thankfully, as aforementioned, i’m on OpenSolaris. I can’t test zones on Linux, unless i use VMWare and saccrifice RAM and resources, but given i’m 100% Solaris 10….fek…why would i?

So, when will i be back?

When will Project Managers be banned from walking up to my desk?

I think you can deduce the answer. I’m undergoing “counselling”…and will most likely work afternoons until further notice. Project Managers - we shall see.

Greek Ancestry - Typos

May 31st, 2008

I make a lot of typos. I write technical documentation; specifications, recommendations and even blogs! etc etc.

And we all make mistakes. Mostly minor mistakes, but sometimes really bad ones. No i don’t mean factual omissions, or half-truths…but mistakes. Typos.

So May 31…let us all bow down to the Greek God Typos. And may he forgive us all.
